bud brand AWARD 2024 U-25

The everyday activities of meeting in person, talking, and touching,
which used to be taken for granted, became impossible due to recent events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and wars.
The world is gradually overcoming and surpassing these significant barriers. In this process,
I once again hope that children can aim for a bright and hopeful daily life, spending their time with smiles.
In a situation where borders and languages are irrelevant,
where people can communicate with each other in real life,
I envision everyone becoming happy through play and sharing those smiles.
Therefore, we are seeking play products that facilitate such interactions.

katachiruta

Card game

[karuta] is a traditional Japanese game played with a set of cards for a matching game of poems.
In the game, the reciter randomly selects and reads a “Yomi-fuda” (reading card) while the competitor tries to beat their opponent at finding the correct matching “Tori-fuda” (grabbing card).
[katachiruta]/[カタチルタ] is a new concept, designed to overcome the language barriers by using shapes. It is our goal, that with katachiruta, anyone and everyone can play and connect beyond language.
Unlike the traditional karuta, the reading and the grabbing of cards [katachiruta] does not come with matching Japanese poems. Instead, It comes in sets of matching shapes and frames. Just like karuta, this game requires one to show a random shape or frame while the competitors tries to find its matching card to win.

RECEIPT PLAYER

Audio player

"Can't we use it for something?" This is something you probably think about at least once before throwing things away.
What about receipts for purchases? In Japan, many people do not accept receipts or throw them away immediately after receiving them.
Receipts are made of thermal paper, a material that is difficult to recycle. The printing on each receipt is unique, depending on "when, where, what, how many, and in what order the receipt was received at the cash register". In other words, they are life logs made from precious resources. I felt uncomfortable with the fate of such receipts being "simply thrown away". The RECEIPT PLAYER was born.
Twenty illumination sensors recognize the black and white of the receipt and convert it into sound. It is as if the print on the receipt were the pins of a music box or the grooves of a record. Shopping with an awareness of the conversion to tones will surely be a new pleasure.
"What does today's receipt sound like?"

DENTOU series

Lighting equipment

The name "DENTOU" comes from a combination of the Japanese words "tradition" and "electric light. The DENTOU series is characterized by the fact that anyone, young or old, male or female, regardless of nationality, can turn the lights on or off without instructions, as long as they have experience playing with the playthings used in the design. The playthings used in this project are "Daruma-otoshi," "Koma," and "Itodenwa," which are familiar tools that Japanese people of all ages and both sexes used to play with in their childhood.[I created this lighting fixture with the hope that the new and interesting interaction will bring a smile to the user's face and share the novelty and fun of the interaction.

MOVEAR

Walker

MOVEAR is a walking device used to help animals who have difficulty moving on their own to play again.
In the spring of 2021, my pet dog suffered from a herniated disc and was unable to walk.
We started this research with the desire to help these precious families regain the same experience they had when they were able to walk of their own free will.
This proposal uses a different attachment and detachment method from conventional ones, and can greatly reduce the burden on the pet and owner when attaching and detaching the pet.
In addition, due to the manufacturing method using 3D printers,
In addition to being able to create shapes that suit the size and shape of your pet,
By using used plastic that would otherwise be disposed of in the filament, it can also contribute to significantly lowering the environmental burden.
Furthermore, in addition to functional innovation, by adding playfulness to tires and body parts through color and shape,
Creating the fun of dressing up your wheelchair,
This will create an opportunity for your pet to start using a wheelchair more easily.
We hope to provide time for as many smiles as possible through play, which is an important form of communication with pets.

The design department has inherited and evolved the educational system of the Bauhaus, a German school of design that championed the integration of art and technology. Design is about clarifying complexity, making the difficult to use easy, bringing order to chaos, and enriching our lives and social environment to be comfortable and spiritually fulfilling. It also plays a critical role in protecting the natural environment of the Earth and maintaining a sustainable world, through the assembly of wisdom and thought across various technologies and industries. The design department is established with the purpose of cultivating and researching talent aimed at creating high-quality culture that benefits humanity and society through design. Its goal is to nurture designers who possess a rich sensibility and keen insight, offering solutions to many problems with design thinking and technical skills, and who have a comprehensive perspective and creative ability. Transcending the realms of art and science, perceiving the essence of things, and honing the thinking and sense that fuse different elements at a higher dimension is the spirit inherited by NICHIGEI DESIGN.

Rain gutter

Make a slightly bad day a slightly fun day.
When it rains,You won't be able to play outside...
You won't be able to go on the field trip you were looking forward to...
Rain seems to bring the excitement of sunny days to a stop.
We want to rebirth the rain that has such a somewhat negative image,We want to move again the excitement that once stopped.
If a depressing day becomes a slightly enjoyable day. Japan has many rainy days.
Rain gutters are used to direct rainwater collected on roofs to the ground.
The rain gutter is to channel rainwater away from the roof, we have added the enjoyment of making use of the rain itself.

Rain moves the gutter. Rain changes the rainy day.
With the moving rain gutter “amadou”,We want to increase the number of moments when you feel excited and happy, even if only a little.

We want to make rainy days, which have a negative image, a little more enjoyable.

FLY

Airplane toy

What dreams did you have as a child?

Due to the spread of infectious diseases, children had to lead a life with many restrictions.
Many of them must have been anxious about their future because their lives had changed so much all at once.

Penguins, chickens, and pheasants, which are the motifs of this work, are all birds that cannot fly, and FLY is a product that shows children hope for the future by daring to fly such flightless birds. We hope that children will put their dreams and hopes on this airplane and believe that their big dreams will come true just like the flight of a flightless bird.

TSUKAMU

Toy

“TSUKAMU”is a toy that fosters children's imagination and allows parents and children to play together. There are three main ways to use it: stacking, drawing, and assembling, and you can play with it as if it were a craft.
The main feature of this “TSUKAMU” is that it is made of paper and starch paste. By using paper, you can draw pictures on the surface. It is also environmentally friendly and can be disposed of more easily than wood or plastic. Starch glue is a cheap and easily available material. Moreover, since the ingredients are natural, it is safe for children to play with. These characteristics of paper and starch glue make it easy to play with and create free ideas.
Recently, digital games have become mainstream, and I think more and more games are played according to the rules in the game. However, at “TSUKAMU”children can create things with their own hands and develop their imagination and creativity while having fun.

Kuwasawa Design School (KDS) was Japan’s first leading-edge design school providing education based on a mix of different approaches and perspectives. Yoko Kuwasawa, a designer and journalist, founded KDS in 1954 as an institution to teach the basics in a comprehensive fashion as well as specialized topics. Originally modeled after the German Bauhaus school, KDS curriculums have always reflected and explored the trends and changes of the contemporary era. In order to instill in each graduate the core, driving force that underlies design ̶ a force that fosters originality and the ability to find practical applications ̶ rather than merely teaching design tips and tricks, KDS has students first engage in general studies based on design fundamentals, after which they delve further into the subject by learning specialized techniques and putting their knowledge to practical use.
